About Me

Welcome to Busy Mommy Gourmet Living.

A little about myself.

Like many of you out there I am a busy mommy. I have four gorgeous, intelligent, creative, strong willed, opinionated, and very stubborn children to whom, for the last eighteen years and counting, I have devoted my life to. My oldest, A, has just gone off to college in Australia, so I'm a little done with him(as done as a mother ever gets). Then I have a senior, K, and a freshman, F, in high school, and a five year old, E, who just started kindergarten. And last but not least, my wonderful husband, Teck Man, who puts up with all my quirky habits. They have been my entire world for the better part of my adult life and I love them all desperately.

I really enjoy cooking and baking for my family; experimenting in the kitchen, trying new things, or taking an existing recipe and changing it up a bit. I'm also obsessed with cookbooks and magazines. I can't help it, the pictures are always so beautiful; especially the deserts. I literally have hundreds of recipes that I've clipped from magazines and equally as many in the books that line my bakers rack. I have, however, only prepared a fraction of them (a fact my husband points out usually when I'm about to buy another cookbook or magazine).

When I have the time, I also love to do little crafting projects, especially those that I can include E in. We have done many of these little projects together, some turn out great, some not so great but we always have a really good time together and that is after all the whole point, right.

I started this blog to help me organize that massive collection of recipes I mentioned before and to catalog some of the projects E and I plunge into. You might be wondering about the name Gourmet Living. Well, when I was thinking of a name for this blog  I remember an article I read a while back (I can't tell you who wrote it, this was before I even thought about creating a blog) about creating gourmet  dishes with what you have on hand. Obviously this was an article about food but I was in the frame of mind to apply this to everyday life, and projects, as well.  The gist of the article was that  gourmet didn't  have to mean difficult or even expensive. It could just mean working with the ingredients you've got, the two cans of tuna and pasta in your pantry or, relating to life,  your loving family and great friends, and turning them into great experiences and , oh yea, dinner.

I think a lot of us have gotten so caught up in the details of living we have forgotten to enjoy all the little moments of life, so it is my goal to become, again, a connoisseur of both food and life; because let's face it, just like food, life is an art. The hard part, sometimes, is finding the time to create it.
I can't guarantee that all the recipes and project will turn out perfect but it should at least be interesting and interesting is far better than perfect in my book anyway.

Thank you for stopping by and indulging my flights of fancy and happy days to all.
